Deep into the Sainj Valley's least-visited reaches, past the hidden Dhel Meadow — a longer, wilder counterpart to the Tirthan-side treks, for trekkers who want to feel genuinely far from a road.
Raktisar sits in the Sainj Valley half of GHNP, which sees noticeably fewer trekkers than the Tirthan side. The route passes Dhel Meadow, a quietly spectacular high pasture, on its way to Raktisar itself and the Naini Top viewpoint above it.
This is a serious multi-day commitment, but the reward is proportionate: long stretches where you won't cross paths with another trekking group at all.
A demanding trek with sustained daily distances and genuine remoteness — best suited to trekkers with prior high-altitude multi-day experience. Not a first GHNP trek.
Best time to go: April–June and September–November.
The approach begins from the Sainj side road-head, following the river valley into the Park's interior.
Passing through Dhel Meadow, a high-altitude pasture that serves as a natural midpoint camp before the push toward Raktisar.
Reaching Raktisar itself, with a side excursion to Naini Top for panoramic views over the surrounding ridgelines.
A multi-day descent back to the Sainj road-head, retracing the route at a more relaxed pace.
